Portrait of Kent: Canterbury City Centre
The Portrait of Kent: Canterbury City Centre, by Nat Lowden, is a social documentary portraiture series that is based on the upper high street. Evolving from a series of trips to Canterbury City Centre, Nat documents the daily life of the city Centre spanning from The Thomas Ingoldsby Weatherspoon’s at Burgate, leading down to the Orange Street Crossroads where it meets Palace Street, Sun Street and Guildhall Street. With many of the portraits being captured outside the Drapers Arm’s on Sun Street Canterbury that has allowed a diverse set of portraits has been captured, that highlighted the assorted racial make of the city. The Portraits were all captured between 10:00 to 15:00 as this was the busiest time of the day which did not make the location become crowed and destroy the composition of the images. Nat’s, richly descriptive portraits, and colour photographs present a diverse mix of individuals who are visiting, living, or studying in the city of Canterbury. Sensuous and Aesthetic detail and sensitive to the Subject, Portrait of Kent: Canterbury City Centre highlights a consistent mood of companionship, desire, plus contemplation.
